Home again, home again, jiggedy jig

Oct 9, 2010

What a joy it is to be back in Honduras! Apparently, the old landing approach is back to because we had the exciting, count every leaf on the trees, say your prayers landing in Teguc! David and his two boys were there to meet us along with Jose, one of our favorite drivers. We were settling in at Casa LAMB when, to Jan's delight, Erlin and Isidra arrived. Erlin is the young man Jan adopted in June. What a reunion - tears all around! Off to SBV... The big news is that the courtyard in the middle of all the cottages has been beautifully landscaped! With grass and everything! Arely organized it. It is fabulous and really changes the look of the place.

So, we just played with the kids, checked out the progress of the boys' dorm, and got up to speed on the changes since we were here last.

Gina's siblings are now with us. Her little sister, Yahaira, is like Gina's mini-me. Her brothers, Tony (9) and Raul (12) also bear a strong resemblance. John and Deborah, the sibs have taken you both on as their Padrino and Madrina! The boys kept asking me when their Padrino was coming back. (Note: this time I didn't give them a date certain!)

Abraham, Elvira's baby, is finally with us. Andrea, his sister, who has been with us for a year has really come along. I can't wait to see how Abraham does. Their mother is a deaf mute who lives in a hovel in La Cantera. Abraham was in the daycare at El Cordero and the staff made sure he was clean and healthy but his home environment was very difficult. Andrea is beautiful and so happy now.

Yolani is going to a school for the blind once a week working on motor skills.  Her baby sister, Maria Mercedes, (1 yr old) is walking now!

I saw Xiomara! She looks great and is so happy.  She is doing really well at the private school in town.  Thanks be to God for the angel who is paying the monthly tuition.  It is definitely a great investment.

Arely wasted no time as the new director of the Children's Home in designing and having the courtyard transformed into a beautiful green space!  It is fabulous!

Tomorrow I will write about dinner (yum) and what Jan did... we are all tired after a long but very good day.

Love to you all!
